California Mathematics Project: North Coast
The California Mathematics Project: North Coast (CMP: NC) provides professional learning opportunities in mathematics for K-12 teachers in North Coast California (Sonoma, Lake, Mendocino, Humboldt, and Del Norte counties). We are one of 19 sites statewide of the California Mathematics Project, which is one of nine California Subject Matter Projects. We work with Schools, Districts, and County Offices of Education and other regional efforts such as the Regional System of District and School Support to design programs that meet the local needs of teachers, schools, and districts in the service of students across the region.
Mathematical Modeling
Each February, math majors and others participate in the Mathematical Contest in Modeling and the Interdisciplinary Contest in Modeling.
Math & Stats Club
Math Club is a place where math students and non-math students can develop friendships and bonds within the mathematics and statistics community. Check out our Instagram @ssumathcub if you are interested in participating in virtual events for this upcoming semester!
We hope to see you at our meetings!
Pi Mu Epsilon
“Pi Mu Epsilon is dedicated to the promotion of mathematics and recognition of students who successfully pursue mathematical understanding.” - Pi Mu Epsilon.
Membership is open to everyone, including Math Majors, Math Minors, and Science Majors. Please contact the Faculty Advisor, Dr. Rodrigo Gaitan (gaitan@sonoma.edu), with any questions.
We are the mathematics honor society at SSU. We meet regularly with the Math & Stats club and work with them in hosting events and fundraisers on campus.
Please complete the AdobeSign Application to join.
Putnam Mathematical Competition
Each year in December, many of our students participate in the William Lowell Putnam Mathematical Competition, the toughest problems competition in North America, if not the world. Contact Sam Brannen (brannen@sonoma.edu) for more information!
Sonia Kovalevsky High School Mathematics Day
One-day event to inspire young women to pursue degrees in the mathematical sciences and honor female mathematicians paved the way.
Contact Dr. Omayra Ortega (ortegao@sonoma.edu) if you are interested in volunteering or participating!
Whiskeytown Lake Mathematical Congress
Every October, around 20 students and faculty travel to the Whiskeytown Lake Mathematical Congress near Redding.
