Biography

I did my undergraduate work in Germany before coming to the USA in 1993 as an exchange student. After receiving my Ph.D. in Mathematics in 1999, I spent three years as a postdoc at the University of Arizona before starting at Sonoma State University in 2002. In Arizona my professional focus changed to work in mathematics education. Much of my scholarship relates to writing innovative curriculum materials that help students better learn and get excited about mathematics. I have contributed to the Illustrative Mathematics K-12 curriculum and I am co-author of several college level textbooks. Recently my efforts are aimed at making the mathematics community more inclusive. I am co-leading our department's project "Transformational Inclusion in Postsecondary STEM: Towards Justice", which aims to create a pathway for STEM department to become truly Hispanic serving.
